Germany’s Obergföll maintains her form in Rovereto

The curtain came down on this summer’s European Athletics Premium Meetings at the famous Palio Citta della Quercia meeting in the Italian city of Rovereto on Tuesday.

Germany’s European Athletics Championships javelin silver medallist Christina Obergföll achieved arguably the best result on a cold night with difficult winds when she launched her implement in the third round out to 64.38m to win by more than four metres.

Also impressive under the circumstances was the win in the 100m hurdles by Russia’s Tatyana Dektyareva, sixth in Barcelona and a winner at the SPAR European Team Championships in June, in 12.95, one-hundredth outside the 13-year-old meeting record. The wind gauge showed assistance of 3.9mps but the gusts proved to be more of a problem than a benefit.
